Safety Center
Real people.
Real safety.
AFF is built to keep fakes out, but meeting new people always calls for care. Here's how AFF protects you, and how to protect yourself online and in person.
How AFF helps
Human-reviewed profile videos
Every member records a profile video in the app, and a person on our team reviews it before the profile appears. This keeps fake and catfish accounts out, but it isn't an identity or background check, so the tips below still matter.
Report in one tap
Tap ⋯ on any profile to report it. Our team reviews every report, and the person you report isn't told who reported them.
Block instantly
Blocking removes someone from your lists and conversations right away. You can manage blocked members in Settings → Blocked users.
Your exact location stays private
Nearby uses your location only to find your city. Other members see your city, never where you are.
Chatting safely
Take your time getting to know someone before you share personal details.
- Keep conversations on AFF until you feel comfortable. People who push you to move to another app right away may be trying to avoid our safety tools.
- Protect your personal information. Don't share your home or work address, financial details, or passwords and codes.
- Video call before you meet. A quick call is an easy way to check that someone is who they say they are.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. Block or report them.
Spot a romance scam
Scammers build trust fast, then invent a reason they need money. Never send money to someone you met online.
- They ask for money, gift cards or crypto, for travel, a medical emergency, customs fees or an “investment opportunity”.
- They avoid video calls or meeting, and there's always an excuse.
- Things move very fast, with intense affection or promises within days.
- Their story doesn't add up, or they claim to be working overseas, on an oil rig or in the military.
Meeting in person
A few simple habits make first dates safer.
- Meet in a public place, such as a busy café or restaurant, never at your home or theirs for a first date.
- Tell a friend who you're meeting, where and when, and check in during the date.
- Arrange your own transport, so you can leave whenever you want.
- Stay in control. Know your limits with alcohol, and never leave your drink or belongings unattended.
- Leave if you feel uncomfortable. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
Consent
Consent is clear, enthusiastic and ongoing.
Consent is required before any physical or sexual activity. It can be withdrawn at any time, and it can't be given by someone who is incapacitated. If you're unsure, ask. “No”, silence or hesitation all mean stop.
